Le due caratteristiche più importanti dell'ASA sono la stabilità ai raggi UV e la resistenza alle alte temperature, fino a 96 °C. Questo materiale è adatto per la stampa di modelli che prevedono un utilizzo outdoor di lunga durata.
Le parti stampate con ASA possono resistere a un'esposizione prolungata alla luce UV e mantenere la loro robustezza e durata molto più a lungo rispetto all'ABS. Quindi ASA rappresenta un'alternativa davvero interessante all'ABS.
ASA è più soggetto al warping rispetto ai filamenti PLA o PETG. Per questo i modelli di grandi dimensioni in particolare possono restringersi o deformarsi durante la stampa, ma nella maggior parte dei casi è comunque un fenomeno meno severo rispetto a quanto si verifica con l'ABS.
