Il filamento Laser Marking PLA contiene un additivo sensibile al laser che è ottimizzato per una lunghezza d'onda di 980-1064 nm. Il materiale è stato testato con successo con un laser Nd: Laser YAG a fibra. Questo filamento non funziona con i laser a CO2.
La marcatura a laser presenta numerosi vantaggi rispetto alle tecnologie di marcatura convenzionali:
- le marcature sono durevoli, impermeabili, resistenti all'usura e al calore, oltre che alla luce e agli agenti chimici
- flessibilità di etichettatura
- nessuna pre o post elaborazione necessaria
